I was on my first overseas business trip and I was with a work colleague/buddy. We were at a bar and these beautiful girls came over and started chatting us up. At first I was flattered – then I realized what they were. They were working girls and we were their potential clients. During a lull in evening I leaned over to my friends and whispered, “hey… don’t get too into it. These girls don’t really like you. They’re professionals.”
“So,” was my buddy’s response, and so went the rest of the night. He disappeared to the hotel with one of them while I tactfully snuck away, surely not breaking any hearts, but probably a pocketbook or two. The next morning at breakfast with my coworker, I admit I was little less than polite. When he called me on my attitude, I told him I couldn’t believe he was willing to pay for sex. I didn’t understand what he meant at the time, but now, 30 years later, I get it. No relationship is free. I know that all relationships are financial, they just have different terms.
